Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is calling on surplus 2011 bond funds to improve part of Glenhope Elementary School's exterior.

Over this past summer, work on the school’s addition was halted when the general contractor removed the exterior bricks and found construction deficiencies, district staff said. The addition had been built in 1999. After finding these issues, the district had to return to the drawing board to rework the wall system of the building.

To fix the exterior, the contractor has to correct a lack of rigid insulation and air barrier and a lack of support above the windows.

To this end, the board Feb. 24 approved setting aside $208,521 from the 2011 bond surplus and a change order to correct the deficiencies found in the school addition. This amount covers the cost for the change order and adds a contingency fund of 6%. Work at Glenhope will start after school is let out for the summer and should be finished before fall classes begin, staff said
