The 25th anniversary of Home for the Holiday: Christmastime in Southlake will feature some new activities to go with longtime staples.

Festivals and Events Coordinator Lauren Kimberly provided updates during the Nov. 5 Southlake City Council meeting.

What’s happening?

Southlake will host its annual tree lighting ceremony Nov. 23, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Southlake Town Square at Rustin & Family Park.

The tree lighting will happen at 6 p.m. with a short fireworks show to follow, according to the presentation by Kimberly.

Before that, attendees can tube down the snow hill rides, one for adults and one for kids, or a new trackless train ride that will go around Southlake Town Square and behind City Hall, Kimberly said.

The details

The city will provide an ice skating rink near City Hall for the first time, starting Nov. 27 and running through New Year's Day, Kimberly said.

The rink will be open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, according to the presentation.

Kimberly said attendees can walk up and buy a ticket or make reservations through the Geoji app, which is recommended. The cost will be $15 a person, which includes the ice skates. Skating will be a cashless payment event, she said.

While full plans haven’t been finalized, Kimberly noted there will be theme nights at the skating rink. The nights that were noted by her includes Dragon Night where guests are encouraged to wear green Carroll ISD apparel; a Western night with cowboy hats and flannel and a Grinch-themed pajama night.

Exact dates and themes will be listed on the city’s social media channels, Kimberly said.
