Throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, airports such as Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport are planning upgrades. At McKinney National Airport, a carrier is planning flights.
1. American to open 2 Admirals Club lounges
Fort Worth-based American Airlines plans to open its largest Admirals Club lounge within Terminal C at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and a new check-in experience for flyers within Terminal D, according to a news release.
The airline also plans to include a grab-and-go option inside the initial phase of Terminal F, which is expected to open next year.
The new Admirals Club in Terminal C, which will be located near the terminal’s Skylink station, will be 37,000 square feet, per the news release.
The space will include a variety of seating options and workspaces.
There will also be amenities, such as chef-inspired menu offerings, expanded all-day food options, and a beverage selection of specialty cocktails, Lavazza coffee and Champagne Bollinger.
The Provisions by Admirals Club will be a new grab-and-go kiosk option for travelers within Terminal F. The new terminal’s initial phase will include a 400,000-square-foot building and 15 gates, according to previous reporting.
Provisions by Admirals Club will feature a selection of fresh food, premium beverages and travel essentials, per the news release. The new lounge, which will be Terminal F’s first, is the first of several premium options American plans to offer within the terminal, according to the news release.
A new check-in experience will open later this year near Gate D30. Eligible customers will be able to take advantage of the dedicated check-in area for flights.
The area will include a private check-in environment that includes individual assistance from American employees, per the news release.
2. Dallas Love Field Airport receives federal funding
The Federal Aviation Administration will invest $23.7 million in Dallas Love Field Airport to enhance the travel experience for families.
According to a news release, the FAA grant will be used to reconstruct passenger boarding bridges, making it easier for families with small children to board and deplane.
The grant is funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. More than $5 billion has been allocated since 2022, a year after former President Joe Biden signed it into law, authorizing $550 billion in new investments and programs. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Arlington Municipal Airport have previously received grants, according to the FAA website.
"This administration is focused on making travel happier and more convenient for American families," Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said in a news release. "The golden age of travel includes a family-first agenda. We’re making airports inviting spaces for parents and children to relax and recharge prior to boarding."
Duffy asked for airports to present projects to the FAA in December. In May, DFW Airport was awarded $8 million to modernize 37 restrooms and $70 million for runaway rehabiliation, according to previous reporting.
3. Avelo Airlines plans nonstop service to 5 destinations from McKinney National Airport
Avelo Airlines will launch commercial air service at McKinney National Airport later this year with plans for nonstop flights to five destinations.
The airline will offer flights to Las Vegas and four cities in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa, according to a June 30 news release. Air service will begin Nov. 11 upon completion of a new commercial service terminal that's been under construction since 2025. Avelo Airlines signed on as the first commercial service provider in late 2025.
Avelo will operate flights with two 184-seat Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft based at the airport, according to the news release. The service will create more than 100 new local jobs with Avelo Airlines. Those jobs will include pilots, flight attendants, aircraft technicians and airport personnel.
One-way fares start at $99, and reservations are open through Avelo Airlines’ website. In a statement, Avelo Airlines founder and CEO Andrew Levy said airline officials were “thrilled to be the launch and anchor airline at McKinney."
“As a proud Texas-born company, we are excited to grow our presence in North Texas and Collin County, one of the fastest growing areas in America,” Levy said.
