Collin County offices and buildings will remain closed Feb. 4 due to persistent snow and sleet on roads, a news release from County Judge Chris Hill announced.

The Collin County Emergency Management Department has been in touch with the National Weather Service and the Texas Division of Emergency Management, according to the release. The winter storm is expected to pass across Collin County by mid-afternoon Feb. 3.

“Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the evening and tonight with precipitation on the roads expected to refreeze before tomorrow morning,” the release stated.

Collin County officials said Oncor Electric Delivery reported 3,000 customers in the county without power. Crews are working to restore power, the release stated, but no estimated time for power restoration was shared.

Fannin-Collin Electric Cooperative in the release reported around 1,400 customers in Collin County are without power. In addition, Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative reported about 1,300 customers are without power. Customers without power between the two providers were said to be mostly around the New Hope, Lowry Crossing, Fairview, Lucas, Blue Ridge and Princeton areas.


The Collin County Public Works Department reported a total of five trees down on or across county roads, but the damage is “nothing serious,” according to the release. The public works department sanded county roads the morning of Feb. 3.

The county urged residents to call 911 for medical emergencies, fires or electrical hazards.

Residents can report obstructed county roads to the public works department at 972-548-3700. Issues on city streets and bridges should be reported directly to the appropriate city, the release stated.
