The Texas Revolution, a professional indoor football league, officially announced its move to Frisco today.

The team, which played at the Allen Event Center, will begin playing at Dr Pepper Arena in February 2018. Game dates and times are expected to be announced this fall.

The Texas Revolution makes the sixth professional sports team to be headquartered in Frisco. The Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, FC Dallas, Frisco RoughRiders and Texas Legends are also located in Frisco.

Texas Revolution CEO Tommy Benizio said Frisco is a family-oriented city, which means more people would want to see a game here.

“It was also clear that there was a tremendous passion for football,” he said. “So when you add a beautiful arena, like Dr Pepper Arena, to that setup, it seemed clear that this is where we wanted our home to be.”

In July, the Frisco Economic Development Corp. board of directors approved a marketing agreement with Championship Sports Group Inc., the majority owner of the Texas Revolution.

“Arena football has a lot in common with Frisco: it’s fast-paced, it’s high energy and used to scoring a lot of points,” Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said.
