According to unofficial results with all precincts reporting, incumbent Matt Shaheen, R-Plano, has won the State Representative District 66 seat, defeating challenger David Carstens.

Shaheen received 58,039 votes, or 61.24%, while Carstens' vote tally was 36,735, or 38.76%.

Incumbent Matt Shaheen continues to lead over challenger David Carstens in the District 66 state representative race, according to unofficial results.


Shaheen is leading with 53,320 votes, or 61.65%, while Carstens has received 33,170 votes, or 38.35%.

State Rep. Matt Shaheen, R-Plano, has taken an early lead against challenger David Carstens, according to unofficial results.

What's happening?


Shaheen received 50,768 votes, or 61.48% of the vote, while Carstens received, 31,802 votes, or 38.52%.

In the Republican primary election held in March, Shaheen defeated challenger Wayne Richard with 63.72% of the vote. Carstens ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

What you need to know

Shaheen was first elected to the Texas Legislature in 2014. He served on the Human Services Committee and the Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee during the 2023-2024 Legislative Session.


State Representative District 66 covers sections of Collin County and includes parts of Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Prosper and Celina. A Republican has held the seat since 1993.
