Frisco ISD joins litigation for youth protection on social media platforms
Frisco ISD has joined a multi-district lawsuit that will help school districts recover additional expenses from addressing student mental health. The lawsuit intends to recover damages that have been incurred as a result of the mental health harms caused to children on social media. The suit’s argument is that social media companies have known about the damages being done to children and chose to put profits over their needs.
8 candidates file to run for Frisco ISD board of trustees
The candidate filing period for the upcoming board of trustees election closed Feb. 14. The election will be held May 3, with early voting from April 22-29. Three seats are up for grabs—Places 1, 2 and 3. The positions are currently held by Gopal Ponangi, Marvin Lowe and Stephanie Elad, respectively.
Frisco ISD state stipend program expands to over 700 teachers
Over 700 FISD teachers will receive a stipend ranging from $3,200 to $12,700 through the statewide Teacher Incentive Allotment program. The district’s application for Phase 2 of the TIA program was approved by the Texas Education Agency. Phase 2 of the program added educators in courses not tested through STAAR as well as career and technology courses and fine arts.
Frisco ISD open enrollment program sees 646 applicants
The district received 646 transfer requests during its two Access Frisco application windows which were open from Dec. 16-Jan. 10 and Jan. 14-24. Access Frisco will allow kindergarten through seventh grade students from surrounding areas to attend Frisco ISD schools starting in the 2025-26 school year. Opening campuses up for outside enrollment will help fill classrooms with low enrollment.
Frisco ISD to rework 2018 bond funds for future capital projects
After all Frisco ISD bond propositions failed at the Nov. 5 ballot, Frisco ISD leaders intend to repurpose bond funds from the district’s 2018 bond program and other capital funds to address future building maintenance and technology replacements.
Frisco ISD kindergarten registration opens Feb. 11 for 2025-26 school year
FISD offers full-day kindergarten at all elementary campuses. Students must be at least 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year to attend kindergarten. Children currently enrolled in the district's Pre-K program are not considered new students and will apply during the annual student registration open that opens April 1.
