“He was there like four days a week for years,” Webster said. “[The original owners] were talking about opening up another location, and [Messinger] was like, ‘Hey, I’d be interested in doing that.’”
In October 2018, the Frisco location opened, boasting the same New York-inspired recipes and menus as the Dallas location.
As general manager, Webster is responsible for the day-to-day operations, including ordering food, most of which is from New York. What is not ordered from New York is made in-house.
“We get everything we can from [New York]—all the specialty meats, pastrami, salami, bologna, roast beef ... provolone, Swiss cheese, bagels,” Webster said. “We want it to feel like a real [New York] deli. We want it to be like what they remember having in New York.”
The restaurant has breakfast, lunch and dinner menus; however, all menu items are served all day.
Deli News Frisco is more than just a restaurant; it is also a bakery, deli and caterer. An in-house baker makes all of the items displayed in the bakery case.
About a year ago, a New York resident called Deli News Frisco and asked if someone could deliver food to his 90-year-old father who had moved to the area from New York but was unable to drive and missed the tastes of the city. Although the delivery was about a 30-minute drive, Webster packaged the order and delivered it. This routine continued throughout the year.
Recently, the son transferred to the North Texas region, and in late September he brought his family, including his father, to Deli News Frisco.“They all sat down and ate. [The father] was so happy to be here and not stuck at home,” Webster said. “It was cool to finally meet the son and the guy I’d been bringing the food to all this time.”
