Candidate applications have been filed for the upcoming May election cycle, including four candidates for City Council seats and one candidate for the Frisco ISD board of trustees.

The next election cycle in Frisco will include elections for three City Council seats and two FISD school board seats. The upcoming spring election will be held May 6. Early voting will be held from April 24 to May 2. Polling locations and times are expected to be announced in March, according to the city of Frisco’s website.

Council will have three seats up for election. These include council positions for Place 5, currently held by Council Member Laura Rummel, and Place 6, currently held by Council Member Brian Livingston. The third seat up for election is mayor, currently held by Mayor Jeff Cheney. All of Frisco’s city council members serve at-large and represent all of Frisco, according to the city of Frisco’s website.

As of 11 a.m. Jan. 26, four candidates have filed for the council election, according to the city of Frisco’s website. These include Rummel and Anwer Azam for Place 5 as well as Livingston for Place 6. Cheney has also filed for re-election for his last available term as mayor, according to an announcement on his Facebook page.

Applications are available on the city’s elections webpage for those interested in running for a council position and who want to learn more about their eligibility. The deadline to file for a place on the ballot is 5 p.m. Feb. 17.


To be eligible for candidacy, applicants must be qualified voters and at least 18 years old at the time of the election. They must also physically reside in the city’s limits for at least one year prior to the filing date, according to the city’s website.

Two seats on the FISD board are also up for election. These include board positions for Place 4, currently held by Secretary Dynette Davis, and Place 5, currently held by Vice President Debbie Gillespie. On Jan. 18, Gillespie announced that she does not intend to run for re-election, according to a post on Facebook. Gillespie has served four consecutive terms as a FISD board member and has served as both secretary and vice president of the board.

As of 11 a.m. Jan. 26, the only candidate to have filed for election to the FISD board is Davis, according to the FISD website. Reed Bond and Melanie Barrios-Jones have submitted campaign treasurer appointment forms, but no official election applications have been posted.
