Highland Village has announced a consultant for enhancing its trails along portions of FM 407.

Council approved $136,900 to pay Halff Associates to consult on the project during its Jan. 14 meeting.

What you need to know

By focusing on trails along FM 407 between FM 2499 and Highland Village Road, officials hope to address calls for enhanced mobility identified in the city’s comprehensive plan, Public Works Director Scott Kriston said. Under the contract, Halff will provide presentations to city officials and the public, analyze potential trail routes and alignments, and identify potential grant funding opportunities, according to city documents.

Funding for the nearly $137,000 project comes from the city’s Parks 4B fund, per city documents.

City Manager Paul Stevens said officials are focused on enhancing trails within the city, but may widen the project scope to connect with trails in Flower Mound or Lewisville.

“There may be other aspects we’ll look at as well, particularly, if it would improve our opportunities to receive grant dollars,” City Manager Paul Stevens said.

Looking ahead

Kriston said Halff’s work on the project will last around six months after a contract is signed.
