Flower Mound residents can choose among 57 parks to relax and play, and one of those will be open to the public soon.

Canyon Falls Park is slated for a summer opening, said Chuck Jennings, Flower Mound director of parks and recreation. The park is located on the west side of town on Stonecrest in the Canyon Falls development.

The 10.5-acre park property was acquired through the parkland dedication ordinance in the Canyon Falls development, Jennings said. It is a $3.1 million project, with the majority of funding coming from the developer’s park development fees. Operations and maintenance expenses will come from the parks department budget.

Town officials will announce a date for the grand opening for Canyon Falls Park soon, Jennings said.

“We’re hoping for early summer,” Jennings said. “We don’t have parks out west, so this is a great addition to our parks system for the residents living out there in western Flower Mound. It will provide some of these great amenities that we’re putting in for those residents where they don’t have to drive in 15-20 minutes into town to go to one of those [parks].”

The splash pad at Canyon Falls Park will be the town’s second, Jennings said.

“Really, it has some topography on it as well,” Jennings said about the trail, adding that from the top of the park, people can see the Texas Motor Speedway. “So you can get some pretty good views looking over Flower Mound and beyond. But the nice thing, too, is this all connects to the trail system already. Canyon Falls did a real good job of putting in and extending the town’s trail system.”

Park elements include:
  • A shaded splash pad;
  • A large nature-themed playground;
  • A full-sized basketball court;
  • Fitness equipment;
  • Heavily wooded;
  • Landscaping; and
  • Parking, restrooms, reservable pavilion.
