Ask the editor: Just how quickly is McKinney growing? It’s time to introduce myself as the new McKinney editor for Community Impact Newspaper.

Since joining the McKinney team, I have learned quite a few things about the city.

For one, McKinney was the country’s third-fastest growing city of 50,000 or more from July 2015 to July 2016, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data. The city’s population grew by 5.9 percent in that time. Only neighboring Frisco—at 6.2 percent—and Houston suburb Conroe—7.8 percent—grew faster.

In addition to the population growth, downtown McKinney is undergoing significant changes that include a new parking garage. A new mixed-use development has also been announced north of US 380.

I am excited to watch the city grow and pledge to cover the happenings in McKinney, ranging from school board and City Council meetings to new businesses and transportation projects.

We appreciate your readership, and I hope you will continue to follow our coverage.
