Frisco City Council on Sept. 16 approved a master plan for the Northeast Community Park.

The park, bordered by Panther Creek Parkway to the north, Honey Grove Drive to the west, Tyler Drive to the south and a neighborhood to the east, could be complete in the next 24 to 30 months, according to Dudley Raymond, planning and business development manager for the Parks and Recreation Department.

The main feature of the 72-acre park is the skate park, which is the first to be constructed in Frisco after years of discussion surrounding its need.

The park includes 12 multipurpose fields that can be used for football, soccer, lacrosse, cricket, or even small gatherings or events. This is the first major park that does not include baseball fields.

Other sports options include basketball and tennis courts and a sand volleyball court.

Recreational options include a splash pad, playground, pavilions and a pond with a fishing pier.

Restroom buildings, concession stands and five parking areas with close to 1,100 spaces round out the park.

Parks and Recreation staff worked for months on the plan, holding multiple public forums to address residents' concerns.
