B&B Furniture Consignment owner David Reichman’s dog, Barkley, has an important job. Each day, the 7-year-old golden retriever greets customers at the door to show off his favorite stuffed toy. Barkley accepts treats as payment and enjoys time spent with his master.
“I wanted a place where I could take my dog to work with me every day. He loves it here,” Reichman said. “People get really upset when they come in and he’s not here.”
Reichman worked in the cosmetics industry for 35 years before retiring and opening the Plano store. The Richardson location started as a jewelry store under the name Bobbles and Beads. The company has since changed names, revamped its business model and now sells gently used furniture.
With more than 12,000 square feet of space, B&B Furniture Consignment is celebrating its fifth year of business in Plano. The store sells furniture, tables and accessories. Items are owned by consignors, who work with the store on a 90-day contract. Items not sold within that time frame are given back to the owner. Reichman can also donate unwanted pieces to three Plano-based charities: Hope’s Door, Jewish Family Services and Christian Food Pantry. The store donates roughly $150,000 a year in furniture to these nonprofit organizations, he said.
Findings at B&B Furniture Consignment range from antiques to the more contemporary. Reichman has a professional on staff who stages the furniture throughout the store, enhancing organization while sparking creativity for his customers.
The store is rearranged every three weeks. Several rooms offer different motifs to include anything from traditional living rooms to man caves.
“We are very particular about what we take,” Reichman said. “We set up vignettes and try to create images so people can see how different pieces can be used together.”
Furniture for sale is discounted the longer it stays in the showroom, up to 90 days.[/caption]Living trends in Plano consist of downsizing seniors and millennials looking to save on housewares for their new homes, and the two dynamics meet at his store, Reichman said.
B&B works with local delivery services that offer discounts for customers who use them to transport their furniture to the store.

Reichman sublets to Texas Toffee, whom he met at the State Fair of Texas. The worldwide shipper makes toffee in the store on a daily basis, which adds another perk for customers, Reichman said.
“This place smells like creme brulee because of the way they’re cooking,” he said. “I don’t have to light scented candles or put out potpourri because the whole store smells like candy.”
