Detroit-based luxury retailer Shinola opened its first stand-alone store at 1039 E. 15th St. in downtown Plano in May. The store sells watches, journals, leather goods, pet accessories, bicycles and gifts created at Shinola’s Detroit factory.

The 1,860 square foot Plano store is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon-6 p.m. on Sunday.

The company opened its second Dallas area location at Highland Park Village in late 2015 because, similar to that of downtown Plano, it features a diverse mix of retail, favorable walkability factors and its casual neighborhood feel, said Jordan Murphy, spokesperson for Shinola.

“Plano is the home of Shinola’s parent company, Bedrock Manufacturing, so Dallas has always been important to the brand,” she said.

Shinola is a tribute to the original 1907 shoe shine company. The company chose Detroit to rebuild its manufacturing legacy.
