The developer behind the proposed Mustang Square mixed-use project in Plano wants to replace some townhouses in the plan with single-family homes. The city on April 15 waived a two-year waiting period to amend the Mustang Square plans that were first approved in February 2018. Thakkar Developers intends to replace some proposed townhouses with detached single-family houses while keeping the number of residential units in the plan the same, said David Pagan, director of program management. "At this point, some of the details will still be fleshed out," Pagan said April 16. The McKinney-based developer does not plan to ask for other substantive changes to the plans approved in 2018, which paved the way for the future construction of 95 townhouse lots, 140,000 square feet of office space, and a mix of retail stores and restaurants. The 46-acre property is located southwest of SH 121 and Rasor Boulevard in Plano. Now that the two-year period has been waived, developers will need to submit a rezoning request. City staff, the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council will all have a chance to weigh in on the changes before final approval.
