As the first week of early voting nears its end, County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said turnout has gotten off to a slow start.

As of Oct. 26, a total of 10,031 registered voters in Travis County, or 1.38 percent, came out to vote.

“That is really low even for this type of election,” DeBeauvoir said. “But we are expecting it to pick up by next week.”

DeBeauvoir said she predicts turnout will increase through the remainder of the election season and is anticipating close to a 10 percent total turnout.

“There are few people on the ballot, but we do have some hot ticket items that seem to be drawing people out," DeBeauvoir said.

The November 7 ballot includes a number of local elections, including the Travis County bond, Austin ISD bond and the city council election in Sunset Valley.

“What we have found is the most interesting thing on the ballot for voters is the Austin ISD bond,” DeBeauvoir said. “That seems to be drawing people out the most.”

A total of 23 voting centers are opening for early voting. Popular locations for voters include the Randalls Food Markets on Brodie Lane and Slaughter, Research Boulevard and Braker Lane and in West Lake Hills.

DeBeauvoir said voters are encouraged to utilize the online wait time system that shows which locations have the longest lines.

“It really helps people find locations that are not as crowded,” DeBeauvoir said. “We want people to get used to having this is as a resource.”

Early voting closes Nov. 3. Election Day is Nov. 7.
