Austin Public Health confirmed 232 new coronavirus cases in Travis County on Aug. 6. Additionally, Dr. Mark Escott, the Austin-Travis County interim health authority, announced individuals without visible symptoms will once again have access to testing through APH's online testing portal. Public testing had been restricted to symptomatic individuals since early July.

Other statistics updated by APH on Aug. 6 include 31 new COVID-19 admissions to Austin-area hospitals and a seven-day moving average for daily admissions of 36.

In all, 22,256 Travis County residents have had the virus with an estimated 20,525 recoveries, and 288 residents have died from COVID-19.
