A new bagel shop touting high-quality sandwiches and late-night service opened in October in East Austin.

Muzzy’s Bagels is owned by Matthew Mussenden and Jimmy Ramirez. The shop’s namesake comes from Musseden’s college nickname.

On the menu

Muzzy’s menu is the brainchild of Executive Chef Daniel Cacheaux, a San Antonio native with experience in kitchens in New York, Australia, France, Morocco and Mexico.

Cacheaux said his goal was to develop a bagel that was healthy enough for customers to eat every day, which he achieves by using 00 flour—a finely milled flour similar to the texture of cornstarch—and a sourdough starter instead of yeast.

Muzzy’s menu features plain, everything, rosemary and jalapeno bagels; cream cheese accompaniment flavors include traditional, herb, jalapeno and vegan ricotta cheese.

The menu also includes five sandwiches, including the old-school breaky with Italian sausage, scrambled eggs, cheddar and a chipotle almond crema; and the mamma mia with sliced mortadella sourced straight from Bologna, made-from-scratch pesto, ricotta, balsamic vinegar, red onion, basil, mint and tomatoes.

Muzzy's will begin offering delivery service in December. Late-night and delivery orders will be served out of the shop’s food truck parked next door.
