Even though Brandy Guthrie, president of the Austin Board of Realtors said the Central Texas housing market just experienced the strongest summer selling season on record, single-family home purchases declined 1.1 percent to 365 home sales in Hays County.

Despite the decline, San Marcos, Buda and Kyle home sales increased 3.3 percent from August 2016, and the median home sale price rose 6.5 percent to $229,000, according to the August 2017 Central Texas Housing Market Report by the Austin Board of Realtors.

Guthrie said while the housing market is booming, housing prices are booming as well.

“With the Central Texas population growing at record levels, housing affordability continues to be strained,” Guthrie said. “While we’re currently seeing positive upticks in housing inventory across our region, housing prices will continue to rise with demand.”
