Kyle officials are moving forward with their plan to include more community involvement in the process that will eventually rename the roadway formerly known as Rebel Drive.

For now, the street name will be referred to as West RM 150, but City Council voted to allow for more people to apply to be on a renaming committee during its Sept. 15 meeting.

The move comes following a contentious initial attempt by City Council to rename the road Fajita Drive in August. Officials drew the ire of many residents who disagreed with the action for a number of reasons.

During the Sept. 15 meeting, Kyle Communications Director Samantha Armbruster said 11 people applied to be on the seven-person committee.

Council discussed interviewing each candidate and coming back with the selection of the renaming committee at the body's next meeting but eventually decided to amend its initial ordinance to allow for more people to apply, effectively killing the seven-person cap.

Armbruster said she would reopen the application process and present the new list to council at the next meeting Oct. 6.
