The runoff election for the Nov. 5 uniform election is approaching, and eligible San Marcos and Kyle voters can cast their ballots toward local City Council elections Dec. 14. Runoff elections are initiated when candidates do not meet the majority vote requirement of 50% plus one vote.

How we got here

In San Marcos, two candidates will be facing off the the Place 5 City Council seat. According to the official results of the Nov. 5 election, Gonzalez led with 32.43%, or 6,414 of the votes. Saucedo followed behind with 26.29% of the vote.

Griffin Spell and Atom Von Arndt were two other candidates in the Nov. 5 election, and received the other 24.24% and 17.04% of the votes, respectively. Gonzalez and Saucedo secured spots in the runoff election with the majority vote.


In Kyle, Medina garnered 37.97% of votes, or 1,169 ballots. McKinney received 35.3% of votes or 1,087 ballots, according to official voting results. The third candidate in the Nov. 5 election, Courtney Goza, received 27.04% of votes and did not qualify for the runoff.

At the polls

There are two polling places registered voters can go on election day, which are listed on the county’s website. The locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 14.

Voters should bring one of seven approved forms of identification to the polls. A list of acceptable identification can be found here.
