Hays County voters have several different school board elections to consider May 7, along with a bond to weigh in Hays CISD.

Early voting tallies show 6.34% of Hays County voters cast ballots early in person by May 3 or turned in a ballot by mail as of May 5, with 4.87% voting early in person and 1.47% voting early by mail.

Hays County is a vote center county, so anyone registered at any address in the county can vote at any voting location on election day.

In Dripping Springs ISD, four candidates are running for two at large seats on the board of trustees.

Incumbent Joanna Day is running for re-election, and newcomers Olivia Barnard, Tricia Quintero and Thaddeus Fortenberry are also vying for a seat.


Incumbent Marisa Grijalva is not seeking re-election.

In Hays CISD, voters will consider a $115.65 million bond that would fund an academic support center, elementary school no. 16 construction, elementary school no. 17 design and the purchase of 55 school buses.

Two candidates are vying for the HCISD board of trustees District 4 spot in the election along with two for the District 5 spot.

Candidates Byron Severance and Amy Grant filed for the District 4 trustee position. Incumbent Esperanza Orosco and Bear Heiser are the candidates for District 5.


The election for District 2, occupied by Esmeralda Pérez-González, was canceled as no one filed to challenge Pérez-González .

In San Marcos CISD, candidates are vying for the board of trustees District 4 spot in the May 7 election to replace retiring Board Member Kathy Hanson.

Candidates Gabrielle Moore and Brian Shanks filed for the trustee position.

The election for District 5, occupied by Board President Clementine Cantu, was canceled after no one filed to challenge Cantu.
