The students received scholarships from the St. David's Neal Kocurek Scholarship fund, a large program within Texas provided to students within Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.
"To improve the health of Central Texans far into the future, St. David's Foundation is committed to looking at the whole health system," said Edward Burger, president and CEO of the St. David's Foundation in a statement. "To help support the health workforce in Central Texas, this year's St. David's Foundation has awarded 41 scholarships to students who are now beginning their paths toward health care careers."
The scholarships are awarded to students who seek an education in health care studies at a Texas university or college, and are awarded based on merit and need. Burger added that half of the 2022 scholarship recipients are the first in their families to attend college.
Students will each receive up to $7,500 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study at a Texas college or university, and up to four years of graduate studies and/or medical school. Along with the financial support, the scholarship also provides students with mentorship opportunities, mental health resources and additional academic support.
Applications for the next round of scholarships opened in November, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 6, 2023.
