At a regular meeting Feb. 28, the Hays CISD board of trustees approved a resolution outlining compensation to staff affected by inclement weather that hit Central Texas Feb. 3-4 and 24. All Hays CISD campuses were closed Feb. 3-4 and had a delayed start Feb. 24 after the National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings that brought freezing rain and sleet.

All district employees that were unable to work because of the closure or winter weather “will be compensated for their regular duty schedule,” according to the resolution.

Employees who had previously requested and were approved for paid or unpaid leave on any of the three days or who were absent from work for a reason unrelated to the closures or weather will be charged an appropriate leave day “and/or have their pay docked in accordance with district policy,” according to the resolution.

"The Board of Trustees of Hays CISD recognizes its obligation be good stewards of public resources and concludes that payment of employees during the closure, as provided by this resolution, is in the best interest of the school district, serves the appropriate public purpose of positively impacting employee morale, and ensures effective district operations," the resolution read.
