San Marcos flags return to full mast on May 6, will lower again when services are held for fallen officer Justin Putnam

The city of San Marcos announced on Facebook that U.S. flags will return to full mast at noon on May 6. The flags had been lowered since the April 18 death of San Marcos Police Officer Justin Putnam, who was shot and killed in an ambush attack while responding to a domestic violence call in the city.

Two other officers, Justin Mueller and Franco Stewart, were critically injured and are recovering.

New stop signs now possible roundabout in the future for Kyle intersection near library



Stop signs at Scott Street and West Allen Street in the city of Kyle may be a stopgap measure as traffic increases in the area.

City Council members on May 5 approved installation of stop signs at the three-way intersection near the library, but future road projects in the area may lead to a roundabout to help keep traffic moving.

Seven new cases of coronavirus confirmed on May 5 in Hays County

Hays County reported 183 confirmed cases of coronavirus on May 5, with 1,961 tests administered in the county. The numbers include 67 active cases and 115 patients who have recovered. Currently, seven of 18 patients remain hospitalized and there has been one death reported in the county.


Sportswear company in Buda shifts gears to make masks

Sand Socks Inc., a small beach sportswear company in Buda, has switched its business model to offer fabric masks for individuals and in bulk during the coronavirus pandemic.
