The city of San Marcos announced on Facebook that U.S. flags will return to full mast at noon on May 6. The flags had been lowered since the April 18 death of San Marcos Police Officer Justin Putnam, who was shot and killed in an ambush attack while responding to a domestic violence call in the city.

Two other officers, Justin Mueller and Franco Stewart, were critically injured and are recovering.

The city explained flags are typically lowered through a funeral or memorial service, but those services have been postponed due to social distancing measures during the coronavirus pandemic. Flags will again be lowered when services take place.
