On Aug. 16, Hays County hospitals reported 67 people currently hospitalized for COVID-19 along with three COVID-19-related fatalities.

Among the fatalities were a Kyle man in his 50s, a San Marcos woman in her 60s and a San Marcos man in his 90s. The Hays County Local Health Department reported 434 new lab-confirmed cases Aug. 14-16, bringing the current total active cases to 2,182.

Of the 67 patients currently hospitalized in the county, 58 are unvaccinated, or 86.5%.

The total number of cases in Hays County has now reached 23,123 since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 3,095 have occurred over the past 21 days.

The number of active cases among younger county residents has increased. Of the active 2,182 cases, 1,490 are among those under the age of 40, and of those, 568 are age 19 and younger.



The Texas Department of State Health Services reported the total number of Hays County residents age 12 and older with at least one vaccine dose rose to 67.89%, and 56.25% of residents are fully vaccinated.

The county is still offering walk-in vaccine clinics on weekdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Live Oak Community Clinic, 401 Broadway St., San Marcos, and the Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are available.

Every weekday 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. the Pfizer vaccine is available at CommunicCare, 2810 Dacy Lane, Kyle.

Austin Community College’s Hays Campus also has two walk-in clinics Aug.17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Aug. 21 from 9-11 a.m., 1200 Kohlers Crossing, Bldg. 1000, Kyle.
