Round Rock Realtor Lisa Salinas-Gruver of Texas Open Door Realty said buying in this area is better than renting.

“If you do not have $1,600 and up [per month] to rent a property, you will not get one in good condition or in an area with better schools,” Salinas-Gruver said. “Many people cannot buy due to credit issues or proof of income; others do not know they can buy. There are several down-payment assistance programs to help people become homeowners.”

Round Rock Realtor Suzie Gole said the rental market in the Austin area is strong.

“I own several rental properties myself and have been able to select from many prospective tenants and have been able to get my homes leased out very quickly,” Gole said. “I think to a lot of people, the cost of buying has simply become out of reach, so they have no choice but to rent.”

The Realtors said owning offers the chance to build long-term wealth and take advantage of tax credits and deductions.
