Round Rock ISD trustees decided Thursday to delay a vote on how to select a replacement for outgoing trustee Paul Tisch, who announced in May he would step down from the board.

Trustees voted unanimously Thursday to accept Tisch's resignation, who has cited a pending move to College Station for a job within the Texas A&M University System as the reason for his decision.

The board decided to move discussion and possible action on the vacant seat to June 20.

State law requires a replacement be selected within 180 days of a trustee's resignation, said lawyer Melissa Sykes, who filled in Thursday for RRISD's outside counsel, Bill Bingham. That time frame would require RRISD to swear in a new trustee by Dec. 5.

Trustees can call an election or chose to appoint a new trustee. The deadline to call an election, which would take place Nov. 7, would be Aug. 21, Sykes said.

Anyone interesting in running would have to file as a candidate by Aug. 29, Sykes said.

District Chief Financial Officer Randy Staats said based on the cost of recent elections, he estimated a November election could cost the district about $200,000.

If the board calls an election for the Place 6 seat, the term for whoever wins the seat would end in November 2018.

Tisch is the second RRISD trustee to resign this year following Terri Romere's decision in January to step down from the board. Trustees decided to appoint Edward Hanna to take Romere's position in the Place 4 seat.

Tisch was appointed in 2013 to the Place 6 position. During his tenure, Tisch held several leadership roles, including a stint as board president.
