Overview
Due to improved water supply conditions, the city of Hutto announced the lowering of water restrictions in a Dec. 27 news release. The transition lifts many of the mandatory restrictions to city of Hutto water customers, although Stage 1 efforts still encourage limited outdoor water use.
Key changes to water restrictions, according to the news release, include:
- Swimming pool filling and vehicle washing are no longer restricted.
- Restaurants may serve water without a patron’s request.
- Operation of ornamental fountains or ponds for aesthetic purposes is prohibited except where necessary to support aquatic life.
- Water may be used to wash down buildings, driveways, sidewalks and hard-surfaced areas.
The city asks industrial, commercial and institutional water customers to voluntarily water outdoors only on Mondays and Fridays.
Even-numbered residential addresses are asked to only water outdoors on Sundays and Thursday, while odd-numbered residential addresses are asked to water only on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Outdoor watering—using automatic irrigation systems and hose-end sprinklers—should occur before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. on designated days.
In case you missed it
Hutto first began implementing water restrictions in 2022. Since then, officials have worked to improve the city’s water supply through new water storage tanks, well water-pumping sites and other infrastructure.
The city is also still in the process of an expansion to its South Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will allow wastewater to be treated to reuse standards—suitable for irrigation and fire protection.
