The city of Hutto is updating its annual tree lighting event with "cutting-edge" technology this year, city officials said.

What's happening

The event, to be held Nov. 25, will feature a drone show. The 200-drone display of lights will last about 20 minutes and be reminiscent of a silent firework show, City Manager James Earp said. The show is courtesy of the city of Hutto Parks & Recreation Department and will be performed by Firefly Drone Shows.

The tree lighting festivities will follow the Shop Small Saturday event in downtown Hutto, which will feature pictures with Santa, arts and crafts, and bounce houses. The day's schedule is as follows:
  • 3:30-7:30 p.m: pictures with Santa, Santa letters and vendors
  • 3:30-4 p.m.: sensory-friendly time at One Eleven East
  • 5-7:30 p.m.: student- and church-sponsored entertainment
  • 7:45 p.m.: holiday drone show
  • 8 p.m.: tree lighting
