Hutto ISD is just one campus away from having all schools in the district deemed a Purple Star Campus by the Texas Education Agency.

This comes as nine of the district's schools were named Purple Star Campuses by the TEA for the 2024-25 school year.

What you need to know

According to the TEA, a Purple Star Campus is a designation recognizing support and commitment to meeting the needs of military service members and their families. The designation was created by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2020.

In that time, all but one of HISD's schools has received the designation.

HISD's campuses provide dedicated staff, specialized training and resources for students of military families to help navigate challenges that may arise, including relocations and deployments.

By providing this assistance, military families have smoother transitions, and receive academic and emotional support as well as an environment that values their contributions, according to a release from the district.

The details

The following campuses received the designation for the 2024-25 school year, according to the district:
  • Benjamin “Doc” Kerley Elementary School
  • Cottonwood Creek Elementary School
  • Howard Norman Elementary School
  • Nadine Johnson Elementary School
  • Veterans' Hill Elementary School
  • Farley Middle School
  • Hutto Middle School
  • Hutto 9th Grade Center
  • Hutto High School
What's next?

All campuses but Gus Almquist Middle School, which opened in August, received the designation. Gus Almquist was not eligible for the designation because it was not open at the time the designation was applied for. However, the district will pursue an eventual award of this designation for that campus.

Per the TEA, it will begin accepting applications for the designation for the 2025-26 school year in the spring.
