Hutto ISD students performed at or above the state average in most subjects in the spring 2023 administration of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, according to results released Aug. 16.

The overview

The district saw three areas in which students performed below state averages, including math in fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth grades; third-grade Spanish reading; and third- and fourth-grade Spanish math, according to Texas Education Agency data.

Zooming in

Students in third through eighth grades demonstrated academic growth over last year in most cases. Average passage rates were higher than or the same as they were in 2022 in all subjects except fifth-grade science, seventh- and eighth-grade reading, and third-grade Spanish reading, TEA data shows. In particular, HISD students saw the most improvement year over year in math and science.

Zooming out

The 2023 STAAR was redesigned to align more closely with the way students learn in the classroom. This is the first year that the test was administered fully online.
