The cities of Pflugerville and Hutto furthered development projects in March, including the grand opening of the Wilbarger Creek Dog Park in Pflugerville, and the rebrand of the entertainment venue previously known as EVO in Hutto. Read on for more information and other updates.

Wilbarger Creek Dog Park opens in Pflugerville

The city of Pflugerville opened the Wilbarger Creek Park & Dog Park on March 15.

The details

The new dog park is part of the Wilbarger Creek Phase 2 project, a $4.5 million development of 15 acres of parkland in Pflugerville. Other project features include the hike and bike trail, which will connect to other parks along Wilbarger Creek.

Hutto entertainment venue rebranded to Hooky

A family entertainment center in Hutto, formerly being built as EVO Entertainment, will now be executed as Hooky, Es Vedra Cinema’s new brand.

The details

Hooky’s offerings include:
  • A game room and bowling alley
  • A grab-and-go concession station
  • A scratch kitchen
  • Eight movie auditoriums, including one IMAX and two Dolby Atmos auditoriums
  • Event/party rooms
The movie and bowling venue is still on track to open in May, said Chris Cline, head of development at Es Vedra Cinemas, in a presentation to the Hutto Economic Development Corporation on March 10.

What else?

Es Vedra Cinemas worked with branding agency Helms Workshop to create Hooky.

“If you think about what EVO was, this is bigger, better, stronger, faster, more exciting, more involved and more elevated while still being really accessible,” founder and Creative Director Christian Helms said at the EDC meeting.

Austin-based Es Vedra Cinemas separated from business partner Elevate Entertainment Group, the parent company of EVO Entertainment, in February. EEG retained the EVO brand when the two businesses split properties.

Vacation rental to join Historic Downtown Hutto

Hutto City Council approved a resolution at its meeting March 6 to allow a 100% tax reimbursement for a property renovation in Historic Downtown Hutto. The project would turn a historic building into a vacation rental.

The details

Project WelcomeMatt, a proposed historic renovation, allows developer Legendary Endeavors to convert a property in Historic Downtown Hutto into a short-term rental, according to the resolution. The estimated cost of the renovation is around $675,000.

As an economic incentive to the developer, the city approved a 100% reimbursement of hotel occupancy tax for 10 years, not to exceed $50,074.
