A June 25 housing report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University found rental markets in the U.S. are stable despite an upturn in the number of people seeking to own homes.

However, some markets saw significant losses in their stock of affordable apartments, which the report defined as units with rental rates of less than $800. Rates were compared between 2011 and 2017 and adjusted to 2017 dollars using the Consumer Price Index.
