1. Plans to transform Austin’s iconic Sixth Street take shape with three design options
The city of Austin is seeking feedback on three design alternatives for the nine-block stretch of Sixth Street west of I-35.
Each option lays out different ideas for bike and scooter lanes, sidewalks, and curb space, but all would keep Sixth Street as a one-way heading west. The main goal in every option is to make more room for pedestrians and allow curbside access for drop-offs and vehicle parking, while keeping cars moving.

2. Check out these 20 new nonstop destinations from Austin’s airport
In August, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport announced a series of new destinations and nonstop flights beginning this fall to locations both nationally and around the globe.
International destinations include Amsterdam, Netherlands on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines; Frankfurt, Germany on Lufthansa; London, United Kingdom on British Airways and Monterrey, Mexico on Viva.
Domestic destinations include Fort Lauderdale, Florida on JetBlue and Palm Springs, California on Delta.

3. Leander Mayor Christine DeLisle announces unexpected end to term
Leander Mayor Christine DeLisle announced she would leave her post at City Council’s Sept. 18 meeting.
Mayor Pro Tem Na’Cole Thompson will serve in DeLisle’s absence. DeLisle will hold her post until Oct. 16, she said.
DeLisle entered office in 2021, and she was re-elected in 2024. Her current term was set to expire in May 2027.

4. Contract approved for Phase 1 of Lake Travis ISD High School No. 2
Lake Travis ISD’s second high school is progressing as the board of trustees approved a guaranteed maximum price of $46.3 million for the first phase of the project Sept. 17.
Phase 1 is slated to include site work such as excavating and filling, paving asphalt and concrete, and constructing retaining walls, wastewater and water systems, and electrical utilities.

5. Future of Austin ISD dual language campuses uncertain amid school consolidation process
Austin ISD officials have discussed relocating wall-to-wall dual language programs at Becker, Ridgetop, Reilly and Sunset Valley elementaries to campuses where a greater number of emergent bilingual students reside.
This unofficial proposal comes amid the district’s plan to consolidate schools in the 2026-27 school year, which could include closing and merging campuses, adjusting attendance boundaries, and revising its transfer policy.

6. Texas Roadhouse coming to Georgetown
A Texas Roadhouse location is coming to Georgetown, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The restaurant is planned for a site off of I-35, near Costco and Lowe's, which opened earlier this summer.
Texas Roadhouse sports a menu with steaks, salads and country fried chicken.
