Editor's note: This article is based on Bastrop City Council workshop and meeting agendas for Aug. 25.
Bastrop City Council will tackle a range of topics, from the proposed budget to Flock camera policy, data center regulations and e-bike rentals during an Aug. 25 workshop and regular meeting.
Workshop discussions
During the 5:30 p.m. workshop, city officials will discuss the following:
- Budget: Options for addressing a projected $830,468 General Fund shortfall. The workshop packet outlines five tax-rate scenarios, ranging from the $0.5118 no-new-revenue rate to a voter-approval rate of $0.5959 per $100 valuation.
- Flock cameras: Recommendations to form a citizen advisory group to review best practices for the city’s automated license plate readers and shorten the data-retention period from 30 days to seven. The city's current policy can be found here, and the recommended changes can be found in the agenda packet here.
- Data center permits: Potential code changes that would require data centers in Industrial zoning districts to obtain conditional-use permits.
Regular meeting items
At the 6:30 p.m. regular meeting, council members will discuss the following:
- E-bike rentals: Hear an update on the Capital Area Rural Transportation System’s grant award for a mobility hub at the Bastrop Public Library, geofencing logistics for the proposed e-bikes and consider a drainage waiver for a Park & Ride expansion at 310 Hospital Drive.
- Church Street property: Council members will meet in closed session to discuss the possible acquisition of property on Church Street. Council voted unanimously July 28 to begin the initial phase of restoring the Allen-Bell House at 1408 Church Street; however, agenda documents do not identify the address of the property under consideration.
