In an effort to fully open the MoPac express lanes by the end of summer, more southbound closures are planned for this weekend, Aug. 18-21. Although the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, which is overseeing the MoPac Improvement Project, is advising drivers to use alternate routes during this time, delays are not expected to be as significant as last weekend's lane closures. Starting 10 p.m. Aug. 18 through 5 a.m. Aug. 21, closures will take place between 35th Street and Westover Road. During peak travel times, only one southbound lane will be closed. Workers will be removing old pavement and laying new pavement near the Westover interchange. Here are the other closures taking place this weekend:
  • All ramps at 35th and Westover will be closed all weekend, and drivers will not be able to enter or exit the highway at those points.
  • The right southbound lane between 35th and Westover also will be closed all weekend.
  • The center lane will be closed Saturday from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. and on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Additional lane and ramp closures are also expected throughout the project.
