“That will result in significant backups,” said Steve Pustelnyk, director of community relations for the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, which is managing the project. Having the lanes closed during the days will allow the contractor to squeeze about eight shifts of work into one weekend, Pustelnyk said. “With the fall approaching and cold weather being an outlying risk, the contractor wants to get into southbound side and get that paving work done,” he said. Additional lane closures could also occur on northbound MoPac during nighttime hours. The lane closures also coincide with the state’s annual sales tax holiday weekend. Pustelnyk said drivers should plan alternatives routes and avoid southbound MoPac. The MoPac Improvement Project is adding one express lane in each direction on MoPac from Parmer Lane to Lady Bird Lake. The project is expected to be complete in late summer.Avoid southbound MoPac from RM 2222 to Enfield Rd this weekend. It will be reduced to one lane Fri 10pm-Mon 5am for paving work. #ATXTraffic
