City of Rollingwood adopts drainage plan Mayor Roxanne McKee and City Administrator Charles Winfield evaluate a drainage project on Hatley Drive.[/caption]

What we reported

Rollingwood City Council adopted a drainage ordinance and criteria manual in November. The policy aims to help residents whose properties could be adversely impacted by stormwater runoff and flooding caused by new residential development. The ordinance promotes responsible development and preventing new flooding issues by properly estimating and managing runoff flows on a lot-by-lot basis.

The latest

The city is currently working on a number of projects related to drainage. A project to install a culvert to alleviate flooding and storm water runoff on Hatley Drive and surrounding properties was completed in December, and a project to install a gutter on Hatley at the intersection of Nixon Drive, previously budgeted for fiscal year 2015-16, will be completed in FY 2016-17.

However, a project scheduled for 2017 on Inwood Road to help prevent erosion was canceled in December to accommodate a property owner who would have been affected.

What’s next

With the ordinance now in place, council will focus on identifying drainage issues residents cannot address themselves and developing additional projects as solutions.
