Players burger restaurant will make its return at Zilker Park after the campus bar closed Nov. 24, 2014.
Austin City Council approved a contract with Players Concessions Inc. to allow the eatery to serve from a cafe in Zilker Park which has been on the grounds since 1960s. Service hours will be from 10 a.m. until sunset.
According to city documents, "Players will provide a selection of healthy menu items as an alternative to standard concession fare at an affordable price."
The restaurant closed last year because the land was on the future home of The University of Texas new business school building.
Players can also be found at three other golf course clubhouses in the Austin area.
Other Oct. 15 highlights:
- Council unanimously approved a contract to begin expansion at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. A 30-year lease of 30 acres of land approved Aug. 27 will help open eight gates at the airport.
- Council unanimously approved creating a city liaison to work with organizations in combatting human trafficking.
- Council approved the acquisition of up to 162 MW of solar energy Oct. 15. Mayor Steve Adler said this approval as well as the 288 MW acquired during the Oct. 1 meeting could raise a rate payer's monthly bill by 67 cents to $1. Council approved the item on a 8-2 vote with council members Ellen Troxclair and Don Zimmerman voting "no" and Council Member Pio Renteria abstaining.
- Council unanimously agreed to allow Trail of Lights entrance fees to be charged no more than half of the event's public days. Last year, council approved a resolution allowing a fee to be charged only on weekends, but the foundation behind the annual holiday event will now be able to charge an entry fee on some weeknights.
- Council approved a resolution supporting federal funding for Planned Parenthood as well as supporting any state legislation that would expand access to full spectrum of health services. Council approved the item on a 9-2 vote with council members Ellen Troxclair and Don Zimmerman voting "no."
- Council postponed until Nov. 12 a vote on a long-range master plan that proposes to expand the Austin Convention Center.
- Council unanimously approved Oct. 15 on second reading only an agenda item that would reduce the minimum lot size required to build an accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, and lessened regulations on coinciding parking requirements. A third reading must pass council before the new regulations become official. Council did unanimously approve final passage on an item that allows property owners to provide water service to an ADU without installing a second meter.
- Council approved a resolution to consider a code change in January that could modify or remove the option of developers to pay a fee in lieu instead of creating on-site affordable housing. Council approved the item with 10 "yes" votes and Council Member Don Zimmerman voting "no."
- Council initiated a code change Oct. 15 that could require transportation network companies, or TNCs, such as Uber and Lyft to pay an annual fee equal to the permit fees paid by taxis then multiplied by the number of drivers of each TNC company. TNCs would have the option to instead pay 1 percent of its annual local gross revenues. Council also approved a measure to bring forth a fingerprint background check requirement for TNC drivers.
