Jamie Fernandez, co-owner of Tequila Bar & Grill, said he is hoping to share an authentic Mexican dining experience with the residents of Round Rock. Fernandez and his brother-in-law, Reynaldo Leon, know about running restaurants from operating other establishments in Georgetown and Taylor.
“Since Round Rock is a different type of area, we decided to [...] create a different menu,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez said that Tequila Bar & Grill is known for its bar, particularly the margaritas, as well as having high quality fajitas.
“This is more of an authentic Mexican restaurant, so I think some people really identify with it,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez said his family owns restaurants throughout Texas, so the decision to join the industry seemed like a natural choice for him from a young age. He opened the Mariachis location in Georgetown in 2004 and expanded to Round Rock last year.
“I’ve been living in Georgetown for 15 years, but I’ve always been thinking of Round Rock. When this location became available, it was perfect,” Fernandez said. “Since it’s something different, I know a lot of my other customers will come try it out sometimes.”
Fernandez said he and his wife, Diney, love spending time between Round Rock and Georgetown. His three daughters enjoy visiting him at his various restaurants, he said.
“It feels like home,” Fernandez said. “Most importantly, I want a family-friendly atmosphere in my restaurants.”
Fernandez said he and his business partner might continue to expand the restaurants they own, but he is satisfied with the three locations in Central Texas for now.
“It’s a lot of work,” Fernandez said. “I’ll probably give it a few years, at least.”
Fernandez said he and his brother-in-law travel among the three locations frequently.
“I know most of the regular customers,” Fernandez said. “I’ll run into them at the grocery store, and that’s always a lot of fun.”
Fernandez said his favorite part of owning restaurants is meeting new people every day and having the chance to talk to his customers.
