On Tuesday night the Pflugerville City Council unanimously approved the purchase of approximately 237 acres of land for a nature park and new city athletic complex.

The property, known as the Rosa Pfluger Tract, is located off Cameron Road, east of SH 130 in Pflugerville and was purchased for $4.276 million.

In a November bond election, Pflugerville voters approved $11 million for a city sports complex, but a site for the facility had not been selected at that time. Part of the designated bond funding will be used to purchase the Rosa Pfluger Tract property, according to city officials.

“Every time I look at this piece of property, I am even more excited,” City Manager Brandon Wade said in a statement. “This land will become a beautiful sports complex and park that is so enormous that it will take several phases and decades to fully develop. We’re going to have a park in the center of a heavily-developable area in Pflugerville that will include sports fields, parkland, trails, creek-beds and a historic cemetery.”

The first phase of the project will likely include around five soccer fields and parking space to help reduce overcrowding at other local fields, and the next step will be to complete a sports field master plan to help guide future athletic complex development, according to a city press release.

“This is something our grandchildren will be excited about in Pflugerville,” Mayor Jeff Coleman said.
