General Motors has purchased a 302,604-square-foot industrial building in North Austin, a move that could grow its presence in the city.

California-based Karlin Real Estate closed on the sale of the property in early July but details, including the price, were not released, said Bruce Beck, principal with DB&R Marketing Communications firm representing Karlin.

The building is located at 13201 McCallen Pass, which is east of I-35 and between East Parmer and East Howard lanes. The property is one of three existing 300,000-square-foot buildings in the 386-acre Parmer technology and office park under construction, Beck said.

Other tenants in existing Parmer buildings include Allergan, Brown Traffic and Marco Fine Arts, according to a news release.

GM already has a presence in Austin with its IT Innovation Center at 717 E. Parmer Lane. A company representative said GM does not have any further information to release about the new facility.

Karlin originally bought the property from Dell Inc. in 2013 and broke ground on the first buildings planned for the office park in July 2014. The office park is zoned for office, industrial, hotel and retail uses and will include more than 4 million square feet.

Developer Trammell Crow is nearing completing on the first building, a three-story 192,000-square-foot office building and will break ground later in 2015 on an identical building.
