Historic home-based restaurant and event venue Green Pastures, 811 W. Live Oak St., has been sold to an Austin developer and will be renovated, a spokesperson confirmed July 10.

Renovations will begin in six months on the 1895 Victorian home where the Bouldin Creek restaurant is based, according to Greg Porter, manager of new ownership team AC 811 Manager LLC. Porter also intends to eventually build a boutique hotel on the property; however, no additional details about that project have been announced.

Green Pastures opened as a restaurant in 1946 and is known for its Southern comfort food, Sunday brunch and peacocks that roam the grounds. The property is also a popular wedding venue.

“The opportunity to preserve and enhance such an important Austin establishment is a gift,” Porter said in a statement. “The history of Green Pastures and its prior owners deserve to be celebrated and we intend to maintain the integrity and character of the property for future generations to enjoy. This project is a big responsibility and an important part of both the neighborhood and the city of Austin.”

La Corsha Hospitality Group, the team that restored The Driskill Hotel and the developers behind Second Bar + Kitchen, Bar Congress and Restaurant Congress, have been tasked with immediately operating Green Pastures, according to a news release. Chef Joshua Thomas has been hired by La Corsha to assume kitchen duties until renovations begin, at which point he will create a new menu and concept for the restaurant. Thomas’ experience includes stints in New York City and most previously as the owner of an East Austin food truck called Chaat Shop, which is now closed.

Keith Karp, the previous Green Pastures chef, now works at Second Bar + Kitchen, according to a news release.

New ownership has not yet released any details about how long, if at all, Green Pastures might be closed for construction.
