Magnolia resident Dana Frazier was a district manager with Jared The Galleria of Jewelry when she was asked to move to an open position at a location in Ohio. Frazier decided she needed a change in her life, but it was not the kind of change that involved packing up all her things and moving north.
Frazier left Jared in August 2013 and opened her own boutique—Six Shooter Junction—in Magnolia in December 2013. Frazier also owns another location in Hempstead, which is run mainly by her mother. The Magnolia store was opened as her own project, she said.
"I wanted a job that involved more interaction with people," she said. "I know how important clothing is to women when it comes to making them feel happy and confident, and I wanted to be involved in helping them achieve that."
Frazier said she goes to great lengths to greet every customer and make them feel special. She endeavors to provide stylish clothing at a variety of sizes and for an affordable price, typically ranging from $16 to $129.
Items are purchased at markets, trade centers and through a variety of vendors. Frazier said she mainly buys from Texas-based vendors, such as Sookie Sookie, an Austin-based jeweler, and Turquoise Haven, a clothing line in Waxahachie.
The shop's wares include boots, flip flops, purses, belts, jewelry, decorative crosses, dresses and jeans. New products come in daily on a cycle that ensures fresh merchandise will be on display for every visit, Frazier said.
"We'll usually get six to eight [products] of whatever it is we want—once we sell it, we don't get it again," Frazier said. "If we sell 300 items one day, we'll buy 300 more."
Business is off to a good start since opening in December 2013, Frazier said.
"We already have around 2,000 unique customers," she said. "It's always been steady, but it's starting to become a more well-known place in the community."
Customer Carol Porter said she values the friendliness as well as the expertise of the shop's employees.
"I like it because the staff always gives great advice," Porter said, who came to the shop looking for input on what to wear for a job interview.
Customer service is the most important part of running the boutique, Frazier said.
"Everybody's family," she said. "We try, even when it's super busy, to give everyone special attention. We treat everyone the same whether they are buying something or not. It's not just about the sale. It's the relationships."

Role model
Owner Dana Frazier said she tries to serve as a good role model for the younger girls who shop at the store as well as her younger employees.
Online shop
Frazier said the next step in growing her business is starting up an online shop and entering the world of e-commerce. She said the goal is to have it up and running sometime next year with a special selection of items specifically for e-commerce.
