The special election to fill Leander City Council Place 4 will conclude Dec. 17 with the final day of voting to take place at Pat Bryson Municipal Hall, 201 N. Brushy St., Leander.

Ron Abruzzese and Jerry Perez are running for the Place 4 seat vacated by Michell Cantwell, who announced in August her intention to leave council and run for Williamson County treasurer. They faced off in the Nov. 5 election but since neither received 50 percent of the votes, the decision advanced to a runoff election.

Abruzzese is the current chairman of Leander's Planning and Zoning Commission. Perez serves on the city's Ethics Commission. In November, Abruzzese received a total of 342 votes and Perez garnered a total of 213 votes.

Leander City Secretary Debbie Haile said 167 ballots were cast during early voting Dec. 2–13.

Three other candidates including Randy Caldwell, Bob Hanson and Dan Michie also ran for the Place 4 seat in November. The two candidates with the most votes moved to the runoff.

Voting takes place 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Dec. 17.
