Business partners Robert White and Victor Litwinenko decided to open their second restaurant in Sugar Land Town Square about two years ago, but they could not decide whether to offer gourmet burgers or crepes to customers. Guru Burgers and Crepes was the result, offering a variety of menu options made with fresh ingredients.

"Our focus stays on providing products of superior quality with the best possible ingredients and processes to ensure that our customers get real healthy nourishment with friendly service," White said. "We are constantly fine tuning and seeking out the best ingredients and recipes—we like doing things from scratch."

Guru Burgers and Crepes features more than a dozen local craft beers on tap and a selection of gourmet burgers, health-conscious salads and sides, and crepes made in-house from scratch.

White and Litwinenko—who are also brothers-in-law—have focused on their goal of offering distinctive food pairings, opening two new restaurants in less than two years that pair typically unrelated entrees and desserts.

"There is no logical thought process that can easily describe how we arrived at these particular combinations," White said. "It has always been about doing things we know and love to eat and offering our particular take on them."

The menu at Guru Burgers and Crepes is tailored to guests with dietary restrictions and specific tastes, offering several vegetarian and gluten-free options. Gourmet burgers are offered in 3–12 ounce portions. For a lighter option, the Captain Planet burger ($5–$12) is made with a black bean vegan patty with quinoa, corn, mushrooms and flaxseed, and it is topped with provolone cheese, avocado, spinach and tomatoes.

Each menu item is created with health in mind, White said, using Akaushi beef that comes from high-quality, grass-fed cattle that is only available in Japan and Texas. The Bruce Lee burger ($6–$14) features this gourmet meat along with bleu cheese, caramelized onions and arugula. Other burgers are made using lean turkey, chicken and fresh seafood.

Sweet dessert crepes are available for $7. The Ying & Yang crepe is served with crushed Oreos, Nutella and a vanilla filling topped with vanilla bean ice cream. Each crepe is made tempura-style.

The owners are now looking to buy nearby land to provide their own eggs and crops for their kitchens, White said.
