A performance agreement approved by Pflugerville City Council on June 11 gave the go ahead for the construction of a 33,000 square foot regional headquarters for MTech, a commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing services company.

MTech is an Austin-based company founded in 1991 and a subsidiary of Comfort Systems USA. The business is now set to build a new $3.5 million facility at 1720 Royston Lane, with construction scheduled to begin immediately and completed by the end of the year, a Pflugerville Community Development Corp. news release said.

"MTech is exactly the kind of corporation we want to attract to Pflugerville—one that has been around for decades, will be around for decades, and has solid growth plans," PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers said.

The new facility will become Pflugerville's top employer, with 230 workers, and the company plans to increase to 300 employees within the next few years, according to the release.

Within the $365,000 performance agreement, MTech agreed to construct a building of at least 30,000 square feet, invest at least $3 million in infrastructure, bring 178 employees to Pflugerville, have an average salary of $40,000 plus benefits and sign a 10 year lease. In exchange, the city will award the company $2,000 for each employee hired, not to exceed a total of $356,000.

"The short turnaround time for the plan review process in Pflugerville was key to our decision to locate here," Mtech President Bob Fabrizio said. "The premium of a build-to-suit building was offset by the incentives."
